Learn to Sail
Drummoyne Sailing Club currently conducts several Learn to Sail courses each year, as well as a shorter 'Muck around in Boats' course that aims to give kids a taste of sailing and spending time on the water.
July School Holiday Camps
This is a camp for young prospective sailors who are looking to have fun on and around the water. This is NOT a “learn to sail” class, but rather a program designed to improve a child’s comfort and confidence around water, as well as develop respect for the marine environment.
Sailors will enjoy a variety of sailing related activities each day, including games, boat rides and swim time. Upon sailing school approval, graduates of the holiday program may enrol in our beginning sailing program a year early at the age of seven.
Participants are supervised by qualified Australian Sailing Trainers and Coaches. Parents and carers are welcome to stay or leave their children with us - they will be well cared for and have a lot of fun!
Two camps are offered for the 2017 July school holidays:
These are introductory courses aimed at teaching the basics of sailing.
Students must be at least 8 years old and be able to swim 50 metres..
DSC is a Australian Sailing Registered Training Organisiation. The Principal and Head Instructors are qualified by Australian Sailing. The lessons begin with basic theory and then students sail on club boats with support boats providing instruction and ensuring safety. The minimum ratio of support boats to sailing boats is 1:6.
The course covers:
Sailing techniques and manoeuvres
Wind, tide and current
- Coaching by Australian Sailing-qualified coaches
- Australian Sailing membership, including logbook and upon graduation,
- a certification of competency issued by Australian Sailing
- the use of a club boat if enrolling into one of the Junior's Learn to Race courses
- 1 x adult membership of DSC valid until June 30th 2017.
This course is designed for all levels of sailors and will be on-the-water in our RS Feva and Vision dinghies. A low ratio of participant to instructor will provide an ideal environment for beginners through to experienced sailors wishing to further develop their sailing skills.
Sailor's Grill Bistro - fabulous waterside dining 7 days a week. Sailor's Grill is operated by Claudio and Carmel Carnevale who will be familiar to many members from the Ecco Ristorante located on the top level of the Club.
