DSC Members Swim Around Cockatoo Island
Members of the Drummoyne Sailing Club recently competed in the 2017 Dawny to Cockatoo swim competing in the 2.4k from Dawn Fraser Pool at Balmain around Cockatoo Island and back or the 1k swim to Cockatoo Island and Back.
Members met at the Club at 8.00am and were transported across to Dawn Frazer Pool in a DSC flotilla led by Noel Sly where they completed their registrations, and eagerly awaited the start of the event. This year’s competitors included club members, Ronnie White, Fran White, Norm McIntyre, Pat McDonough, Rebecca Hale and Vivien Ellis.
Notably DSC’s Normie swam a personal best knocking a huge 5 minutes of his 2016 time - a true attestation to the benefits of interval training followed by relaxation at the DS Club. Vivien Ellis found the podium with a second placing in her age group. The swimmers were assisted by club members Noel Sly, Sid Hammond, Bob and Doris Browne, and Ashely Green, who provided the swimmers’ transport, and safety escort during the race. Photographer and DSC member Jan Hammond captured the members in action. The Drummoyne Sailing Club is committed to the wellbeing of members and is delighted to continue to be a part of this exhilarating activity and support the involvement of its members.
Thanks to DSC President Dave Mitchell and members Noel Sly and Ashley Green for crewing the support boats provided by DSC.
